Wong, a local businessman, will run in the Republican primary next year. Current County Judge KP George, a Democrat, has not yet said whether he’ll run for re-election after being charged with multiple crimes.
Former Sugar Land city council member Daniel Wong announced Friday he’s entering the Republican primary for the race for Fort Bend County Judge.
“If I become your county judge, I will cut unnecessary spending, wasteful spending,” he said while standing outside the Fort Bend County Justice Center.
Inside the courthouse behind him, current County Judge KP George was scheduled for a hearing in an ongoing criminal case against him.
George, a Democrat, is facing money laundering charges and accusations that he faked racist attacks against his own campaign in 2022.
His term will expire next year and he’s not yet announced a re-election campaign. In a statement earlier this year, a spokesperson said the county judge would announce his plans for the 2026 election “at the appropriate time.”
A staffer for the county judge said Friday that there were no new updates regarding George’s plans for 2026.
